Power restored quickly by:
• Core-drilled penetration openings to run new circuits from the garage (street level) into the building’s electrical room
• Installed a temporary SJ cable to energize the garage’s existing house panel during the repair process, ensuring uninterrupted power
• Removed damaged feeder wires and disconnected the outdated H BLOCK system
• Installed new 2” conduit and mounted a new 200-amp bypass meter pan
• Ran new wiring through both existing and new conduits, connecting the house panel to the meter pan and making all necessary connections
• Removed temporary wiring and sealed all wall openings to complete the job with a clean finish

The garage’s meter block was successfully replaced, and—thanks to the temporary power setup—the customer never lost power during the entire project.

From 9AM until 3AM, Metro Group’s electrical technicians worked tirelessly, responding to the emergency with diligence and expertise. The situation was complex, with high-voltage equipment (277/408V), which required careful coordination with Con Edison and building management to safely shut down power to the entire 503-unit building.

Our dedicated team prioritized safety throughout the operation. Adhering to stringent protocols, we implemented lockout/tagout procedures to ensure the utmost protection. Meticulously conducting thorough megger tests on compromised wires, we left no stone unturned in identifying potential hazards. Despite the time-consuming nature of these tasks, our electrical technicians worked efficiently to restore power to the affected units using temporary power.
Challenges of Isolating the Main Power Supply
One particularly challenging aspect of the operation involved isolating the main power to prepare for Con Edison’s reactivation of the building’s power supply. To accomplish this, we cut 600 feet of thick wires with a gauge of 600MCM, demonstrating resourcefulness and ingenuity under pressure.
